Proceed towards the eastern coast to discover “ L’Etoile”, a natural sanctuary which promises exclusive trips into the greenwood.

A Day at Ile Aux Cerfs

Discover rural Mauritius while heading to the east coast of the island. A short trip by boat will bring you to Ile Aux Cerfs, an islet situated a few hundred metres away from the mainland.

Its golden beaches and translucent lagoons will appeal to all the watersport enthusiasts and will make you oblivious of tomorrow. Sip exotic cocktails and enjoy a seafood lunch in one of the two thatched roof restaurants.

Lunch, drinks and watersport facilities are at an additional charge.

Boat

Mahebourg Museum and Iles Des Deux Cocos

Mahebourg is an authentic and lively fisherman village lying on the south east coast of the island. Visit the Naval museum where there is a preserved collection of relics salvaged from the wrecks.

These are reminiscent of the fierce naval battles that took place in the region which saw the very first naval victory of the French over the British during the Napoleon period. Depart from the museum and proceed to Blue Bay for Iles Des Deux Cocos.

Visit the Villa “Follies” followed by a boat excursion to the marine park for scuba diving. Swimming and snorkelling is a must in one of the most beautiful lagoons on the island. You will also have the opportunity to discover the underwater sea fauna and flora, under the supervision of the skippers.

Let your eyes feast on the panoramic view from the top of “Trou Aux Cerfs”, a volcano that has been dormant for 700,000 years. Next, stop briefly in the town of Curepipe to visit a ship model factory and for some shopping.

Before lunch, you will proceed to Grand Bassin, a sacred lake for pilgrims of the Hindu community. Here, you will find a most impressive statue of Shiva at 38 metres tall - the tallest of the Indian Ocean.This statue looks over this holy site, permanently watched over by Braham priests.

Only a stones throw from this mystical site are the Black River Gorges, Chamarel, a geological rarity made of undulating coloured earth.

Port Louis, the capital city and thriving commercial centre, was founded by the French Governor François Mahé de Labourdonnais in 1735.

Arrive at the Place d’Armes and proceed to the buzzing central market (rebuilt in 2004), which is a strong place of interest for the Mauritian community.

At Le Miraj, tapestries made of cashmere, artisanal products and traditional objects of art will delight you. Proceed to the Caudan waterfront where one can find a wide selection of high quality products and jewellery.
