Passport/Visa Requirements - Australian citizens require a visa to visit Bali and must have a current passport with more than 6 months validity. Visa is paid on arrival in Bali at US$25* per person (including children and infants). *Visa amount depends on holiday duration.
Currency - The currency of Indonesia is the Rupiah (Rp). Exchange facilities are available at banks, most hotels, airport and authorised money changers. Note: When using money changers, be sure to ask for the exact amount up front before handing your money over and always count your money in front of the clerk to ensure you have been given the correct amount. Don’t accept bills in poor condition.
Taxes - Travellers departing from Australia must pay additional taxes when paying for their booking - check with your travel agent. Departure tax is also required before departing from Bali and is paid at Denpasar airport (in Rupiah).
Balinese/Public Holidays - There are many religious holidays in Bali, some of which may affect arrangements. The most disruptive to tourists is Nyepi Day (Friday 7th March 2008) when all activity and transport stops, shops close and guests are required to stay in their hotel. It is advisable to avoid travel during this period. Check with you travel agent for further details.
Tipping - Hotels and restaurants automatically add a service fee (10%) and government tax (11%) to your bill, but personal tipping is not compulsory (at your own discretion). Porters at the airport expect payment of Rp1000 per bag (not a tip).
Clothing - Light casual clothing is recommended but restrictions may apply when visiting temples.
Insurance - Travel insurance is highly recommended and can be obtained through your travel agent before you depart.
Health - Please see your doctor regarding health requirements and vaccinations before you depart. Drink only bottled water and protect yourself with sunblock and a hat.
Security - Be protective of your wallet/valuables and don’t leave anything unattended. Carry photocopies of passport, tickets, etc and keep originals in hotel safe.
